Flaget Memorial Hospital, a 52-bed facility is the only hospital in the Nelson County (Bardstown) area and treats those from Marion, Washington, Spencer, Bullitt and LaRue counties in addition to Nelson County. The hospital opened a new award-winning facility in 2005 and became part of Saint Joseph Health System in early 2008. Services offered include Flaget Birth Center, oncology services, Pain Management Center, pulmonary rehabilitation, surgical services, Sleep Disorders Center and Flaget Wound Center. Off-site services include Flaget Immediate Care Clinic, Hospice of Nelson County, and Bardstown Rehabilitation Services.

On August 5, 2010, Flaget Memorial Hospital held a ribbon-cutting and grand opening celebration for Nelson County's first full-service cancer center.

The center features a calming setting, with natural colors and materials, and a waterfall feature in the front lobby. New, private chemotherapy rooms, intravenous therapy treatment for patients with diseases other than cancer, patient education areas, and other amenities can be found in the center, along with the latest in technology.

The new Elekta Synergy machine is the first one in Kentucky equipped with Precise Beam Dynamic technology, allowing clinicians to see tumors at the precise moment of treatment.

Flaget Health Connection is a health information and community resource center that Flaget Memorial Hospital provides as a free service for county residents. The center offers a health information library for the public, free online searches on health topics and free classes on health and wellness issues. The Health Connection maintains a comprehensive listing of community resources so referrals can be provided to these services. The center partners with other agencies such as the American Cancer Society, the Patient Advicate Foundation, and the Kentucky Cancer Program to offer a variety of programs. Weight loss seminar

Bariatric/general surgeon Dr. Rob Farrell will discuss weight loss surgery options now available at Flaget Memorial Hospital at a free seminar Weds., Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. at the hospital. To register, call 502-350-5492.

Blood sugar testing

A registered nurse will offer free blood sugar screenings Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Flaget Health Connection, 111 N. Third. The entrance is to the rear of the building.

Hospice Volunteer Training

Hospice of Nelson County will hold it's free annual volunteer training Friday, Sept. 24 from 6-9:15 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 25 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. This free training is open to the public. The location will be the Hospice office at 111 N. Third. Free continuing education credits will be provided for nurses. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on Saturday.
